Big Time Rush: Elevate

No matter what I do, I can never keep up with every corner of the music universe. I have a good friend at work who has been talking about this band she’s going to meet in two weeks. I realized that after all this conversation about them, knowing their names, and seeing plenty of meet-n-greet photos, I had never actually heard Big Time Rush. We’re changing that tonight with Elevate.

The album starts out with Music Sounds Better, which I believe I have at least heard a little of while watching Spongebob repeats on Nickelodeon. It’s a good song – lyrics that are as sweet as a child making Kool-Aid and a nice upkeep. If I had the choice of a proper introduction to the band, I may not choose this song, but hey, what do I know?

No Idea is more my speed. All the different types of voices are recognized and showcased with the slower song. This song would sound amazing with just a piano – or even acapella. I’m going to think they do it like that.

From the second it came on, Love Me Love Me had me dancing in my seat. There are some hilarious lyrics and I imagine this would be a good song for a car ride, hopefully with the top down.

Time of Our Life is also a fun track. This one has a summer vibe – I don’t know if it’s the energy or if it’s something about the music.

Windows Down samples the famous Blur’s Song 2. I’m  not sure how I feel about a boy band sampling this considering that song’s history and relevance. I don’t think it’s a positive feeling, though.

I’m not sure this band is what I expected it to be. Maybe I’m bias considering I grew up listening to two of the best boy bands there will ever be. Maybe it’s because this was a pieced together group is why I feel there’s just something missing. I don’t know if it’s something to be said about the talent or the music production, but the album is a little different than what I expected. There wasn’t a song that really reached out and grabbed me and I had a hard time finishing some of the songs.

There were a few tracks I enjoyed, but I’m pretty sure I’m just going to stick to the boy bands that I know.
